SHMOOZE?

After this, the Lord appointed seventy other disciples and sent them on ahead in pairs to every town and place where he himself was about to go. He said to them, “To be sure, there is a large harvest. But there are few workers. Therefore, plead with the Lord of the Harvest that he speed workers out to gather in his harvest. 3Get going now but pay attention! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. Don’t carry a money-belt or a pack, and don’t stop to SMOOZEwith people on the road.”Luke 10:1-4 (JNT)

“Don’t stop to smooze with people on the road. KJV states “Salute no one,” but the Yiddish word “smooze which means “talk in a friendly way, chit-chat, engage in idleconversation, gossip and is derived from the Hebrew (“things heard, rumors”), conveys precisely the sense of Jesus” (Yeshua’s)instruction not to waste time on the road but to hasten to the destination and get on with the work to be done!

Elisha similarly instructed Gehazi as he left to lay Elisha’s staff on the face of the Shunammite woman’s dead child: “If thou meet any man, salute him not; and if any salute thee, answer him not again” (2 Kings 4:29, KJV).

Question:  Are we spending too much time in chit-chat and not enough time being about our Father’s business?  Standing or sitting around “smoozeing”can get us into trouble before we realize it!

But I say unto you, thatevery idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the Day of Judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.”Matthew 12:36-37(KJV)
